If you were to think about one downside to a typical ski day, what would you say? Well, it would probably be a toss up, wouldn't it—between the schlepping of ski gear and the driving to and from the resort. This process—as we all well know—has the potential to pose an existential crisis. First you have to load all the gear into the car—skis, boots, poles, etc. Then, after enduring what can sometimes be a rather unpleasant car ride, you are forced to lug all that gear from whatever Syberian outpost you were parked at (somewhere apparently within the "parameters" of resort parking) all the way up to the ski hill. And oh, I almost forgot, upon entry to Schaffer's Camp, members and their guests can exchange their ski boots for woolen slippers—I simply couldn't leave that piece of information out.
So a typical ski day for Tahoe Mountain Club members looks something like this:
- Wake up
- Put on ski garments
- Get picked up by the TMC shuttle at the Pavilion
- Get dropped off at Alpine Club
- Enjoy a hot breakfast
- Put on warm ski boots and newly-waxed skis (all of which is stored at the Club)
- Make tracks through fresh snow
- Take a break at Schaffer's Camp for some mid day aprés (is there such a thing??)
- Ski back down to Alpine Club and drop gear to enjoy full aprés (there's a bar for the adults and room for the kids to play)
- Allow the shuttle to transport the family back to the Pavilion at Old Greenwood where one might enjoy a steam/sauna and hot tub session...or massage...whichever is preferred.
